Angels in Supernatural
Soldiers of Heaven with Their Own Agendas
Angels in the Supernatural universe are not the benevolent guardians of popular culture. They are ancient, powerful, and often terrifyingly indifferent to human suffering. Created by God as his first beings, angels were designed to love and serve their father, but over millennia, many have developed their own desires, resentments, and schemes.
In their true forms, angels are devastating beings of celestial light and sound that can blind and deafen humans. To walk the Earth, they require human vessels who must give consent to be possessed. Their powers include healing, time travel, teleportation, and the ability to smite demons with a touch.
The Celestial Hierarchy
Archangels are the most powerful: Michael, Lucifer, Raphael, and Gabriel. Each possesses power far beyond ordinary angels. Seraphim like Castiel serve as Heaven's elite warriors. Regular angels form the rank and file of the heavenly host, following orders from above.
Heaven's Civil Wars
The Supernatural series depicts Heaven as deeply dysfunctional. Factions war against each other, angels fall from grace, and the absence of God creates a power vacuum that threatens all of creation. Not all angels are enemies, but trusting one requires careful judgment.
