In the Nexus, the Mega Coven faction is made up of witches and students who want to study magic in-depth. Their goals are to master all kinds of spells and rituals. Named after the coven at one time started by known witch Rowena MacLeod.

Anybody who performs magic regularly and often eventually becomes a witch, though this is easiest for those who already have an affinity to magic. Some people are born are witches, which is called being a natural witch.

Witches are proficient in magic, which includes spells, hex bags, potions, rituals, etc. Some witches consider themselves pagans in the sense that they also worship gods and decorate altars for them, while some practice divination (tarot, etc.). Some do both as well, and some do neither.

There is no one way to be a witch, the only ‘requirement’ so to speak is the practicing of magic as mentioned before. A practice that is gaining in popularity is to edit old spells or to create your own, new spells.

The original main coven was called the Grand Coven. It was a large and powerful group of witches who were originally known for condemning the witch Rowena because of her methodology. They banned her from the coven and cursed her so that she couldn’t perform magic or form her own coven.

The Grand Coven was once known to be the main authority when it came to covens, witchcraft and witches, but their influence was significantly weakened due to the Men of Letters and their meddling. The MoL used their political power to make the church uneasy about the witches, which eventually led to most of the Grand Coven being persecuted and burnt at the stake. The witches who survived were forced to go into hiding, and their powerful magic, spells and potions were also hidden and burried in bunkers across the world.

The remaining members of the Grand Coven, who were led by Olivette at the time, launched an attack on various MoL bunkers which contained their spells and other possessions of theirs. However, the bunkers’ warding and protection repelled the witches who were ultimately unsuccesful in their quest. Olivette was eventually heavily cursed by Rowena, and so the Grand Coven was left without anybody to lead despite the fact some of their superior members remained. The future of the coven became uncertain.

After learning many dangerous and powerful spells from the Book of the Damned, Rowena began recruiting active members of the former Grand Coven to her own coven, named the Mega Coven. In 2018, through Sam Winchester, she was able to gain back all her powers.

At one time, the Mega Coven had four members aside from Rowena, who was leading it. An active coven must have a minimum of three members, and so more were recruited after Rowena convinced an active Grand Coven member to join.

The big plans that Rowena had for her coven were never realised, as everything eventually fell apart when Rowena renounced her past bad ways and changed her mind. The idea was never revived on a big scale.
