Playing God:
Rob Benedict

God among mortals

He not only has his own band, he plays God in the hit series “Supernatural” and, as of this year, he even has a child. Robert “Rob” Benedict has achieved a lot over the years since his first appearance in “Supernatural”.

Born on September 21, 1970, Rob Benedict dedicated himself to music at an early age and in 1997 he founded the indie band “Louden Swain” with a friend, bassist Michael Borja. A musician ever since, he took on the role of Chuck Shurley in Supernatural in 2008, but not yet with the ulterior motive that Chuck is God in disguise, just a somewhat unique prophet of the Lord who writes down the adventures of Sam and Dean in novel form.

In 2013, he suffered a stroke during an autograph session at a Comic Con. At the time, he was very good friends with the actor of Archangel Gabriel, Richard Speight Jr, and founded the “Getting by with a little help” campaign, the proceeds of which were donated to the International Stroke Association.

In 2014, Rob returns to Supernatural as Chuck Shurley. Previously only given a small role, he is finally given his biggest role in season 11 in 2015: it is made official that he embodies God and helps Sam and Dean to banish the darkness Amara.
In addition to supernatural, he also worked with Richard Speight on the web series “Kings of Con”, which aired in 2016 and was intended to provide a comedic look at the world of conventions. This series has one season to this day. In it, they play caricatures of themselves in the leading roles.

By the end of season 14, it becomes clear that Rob as Chuck is the last and strongest antagonist Sam and Dean have ever faced, and in season 15, Rob takes a starring role as God to fight Sam and Dean one last time, ready to end all reality to enforce his will.

But what now? Supernatural was over and he had just separated from his wife Mollie Benedict after 24 years. For a long time, apart from a few projects such as a Supernatural parody by “The Hillywood Show”, a music video, in which he took on the roles of a VERY eccentric Cain and a TV reporter, it was, at least for some time, pretty quiet around him. This year, however, it was announced that he had a child with Ruth Connell, who plays Rowena MacLeod in Supernatural and whom he eventually married. Ruth published this on her Instagram feed. So the most exciting part of Rob Benedict's life has only just begun.
