Welcome loves! My name is Neena Emily Addams and every other week I will suddenly show up at the place of someone in the Nexus and invite them for diner. Not just any diner, but we'll cook their favourite meals and talk about why it is important.

Today I got permission from myself to kidnap a wonder young lady, who only recently took the huge responsibility to join the Sentinels. Let's hear it for Gloria Winchester.
Sometimes you get invited to share a meal with someone, like with James. Sometimes you just meet one of the students in the kitchen, like I did with Joe. And the most fun times are the times where you just knock one someone's door and kidnap them. That is what happened with Gloria. I just showed up, threw her over my shoulder and took her to my appartment, where I put her in my kitchen. Even after this kidnap, she still seemed happy to talk about food.

As soon as I put her down, I kinda appologised. But everyone who knows me, knows that I am not really sorry, so instead of trying to look kinda guilty, I just took off with the first question, while also looking for the right ingredients. "Now that we are here anyway sorry, not sorry could you tell me more about your favourite meal Gloria? After all, I needed to know what to get from my fridge and I seriously hoped I had all the right ingredients to make her favourite dish. It seems I was kind of lucky, as her favourite meal was something I liked to eat too, though a little different than my usual steak. "My favorite meal is barbecued steak with grilled zucchini and a fresh Caesar salad. I really like this meal because generally being able to barbecue is the first sign of summer and summer is my favorite time of years. It's when you can truly relax and spend time with friends and family, and I feel that this meal set really gives off the same vibe." she told me and my mouth started watering as soon as I heared this.

Sadly, I have no barbeque, which meant we had to improvise a little on baking the steak. Instead of a barbeque, we had to use the grill. Even if our current version was a little different, I still asked Gloria about the original preperation. So, under normal summer circumstances, how would you make this? I need to get my dinner inspirations somewhere, right? And Gloria seemed happy enough to share this amazing meal.
"In preparation of this meal, I recommend doing the steak first, as the seasoning from the steak on the grill just adds a little something to the zucchini. First, you want to marinate your steak. For the marinade, you need 1/3 cup soy sauce,1/2 cup olive oil, 1/3 cup fresh lemon juice, 1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce, 1 1/2 tablespoons garlic powder, 3 tablespoons dried basil, 1 1/2 tablespoons dried parsley flakes, 1 teaspoon ground white pepper, and 1 teaspoon dried minced garlic (optional). You put all of those in a blender on high speed for 30 seconds until they're thoroughly mixed. Then you pour it over your steak (any cut is great, but I usually go for t-bone of striploin if I can), cover it, and leave it to refrigerate for 8 hours. When the Eight hours are up, you can bring your steaks out and let them sit uncovered for 20 or so minutes. Then you heat your grill to high. Once that's done, you brush your steak with oil on either side and sprinkle a bit of salt and pepper on it. You want to cook your steaks until they are golden brown and slightly charred, which is usually four or five minutes. Then you flip the steak over and continue to cook for 3-5 minutes for a nice, tender medium rare finish. After that, zucchini is really simple. You need 4 zucchinis, quartered lengthwise, 2 teaspoons olive oil, 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder, 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning, 1 pinch salt, 2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar, and optionally a little bit of parmesan cheese. You want to change the heat of the grill to medium-low for zucchini. First, you want to brush the zucchini with olive oil and sprinkle all of the powders on (salt, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, and salt). Then you want to cook it on the grill for 3-4 minutes per side. After that, brush it with balsamic vinegar and add the parmesan cheese, then cook for one more minute on each side. Serve these as soon as you can after cooking. The Caesar salad is pretty straight-forward. You need lettuce (I like to use romaine), Caesar dressing, grated cheese, and bacon bits. You toss all of that together in a bowl, toss it, and presto salad-o! It's a meal that takes a little time to make but is totally worth it."

It was a lot of work, but in the end, it tasted to freaking good!!! If you haven't tried it before or were forced to eat it by me or Gloria you really should try it out! While eating I almost forgot the last question and I was just finished when I remembered I had one more thing to say. "Okay, this is realy great. Like, realy realy great! Why is it so special to you?". I wasn't sure if I was prepared for the answer, but at least now I would actually listen, instead of focussing on the amazing steak and salad again. Gloria's answer kinda surprised me. "My first memory of this meal was when I was around eight. At the time, I was in a good home near Toronto, Ontario, in Canada. I was terrified of the zucchini, because I hated vegetables, and no one was going to convince me differently. But after trying it, I immediately fell in love with it. I remember eating it outside on the patio of our house, watching the sunset, feeling the warm summer breezes, and being so happy. I think that happiness from the first time I tried the meal stuck, and that's why it's so special to me. Because whenever I eat it, I feel like everything's going to be okay, no matter how crappy life has been."

I wasn't sure what to think of it, but it did seem like a good way to make your kids eat new vegatables. So for all the mommies out there yes, you Joelle, Lila, Riley it might be worth a shot.
Maybe it's a little bad, but after this small kidnap still not sorry I tried it myself, remembering how Gloria did it. Even if my steak tasted a little different, I think I got the salad and zucchini right. At least it still tasted as good as before, so I can say I am officially in love with this summer food. Btw, if you haven't eaten it yet and you do visit, prepare yourself for this meal...
